About the data

Where every number on AERIS comes from, how often it is updated and what we deliberately leave out. AERIS is an information service, not a warning system: in danger, act on official air-raid alert signals.

Levels, reasons and signals

Red level means a missile or ballistic threat. Yellow level means a threat from attack drones. The level and its reason (“Missile threat”, “Ballistic weapons threat”) come from the official source; we show them word for word and add nothing of our own. On the English pages the reason stays in the original Ukrainian.

An alert is declared for a whole oblast, a raion (district) or a single hromada (municipality). So the statistics of a city or village are those of its hromada: the same for every settlement in it.

Hromada signals (threat of artillery shelling, street fighting, a chemical or radiation threat) are official signals, not an air-raid alert and not objects. We show them in purple.

Target reports

These are what sources reported, not a confirmed number of objects. Reports from one source about the same event are merged into one, and reports that trace back to the same original source are never counted as independent confirmation.

Positions are only those named in a report, rounded to roughly 2 km; old ones are removed. A heading is shown as the source gave it. The distance to you is worked out on your device — we never receive or store your location.

What we never show

  • forecasts of where targets will go, trajectories or arrival times;
  • impact locations or the aftermath of strikes;
  • air-defence positions or activity, or interceptions;
  • anything that could be used to aim or adjust fire;
  • tracking of targets beyond what official and public sources have reported.

AERIS forecasts are only the probability of an alert at oblast level, with their accuracy published openly.

Privacy

Notifications work without an account: we keep only the device’s or browser’s notification address and the oblasts and hromadas you chose. More in the privacy policy.

Questions

Where does AERIS get air-raid alerts from?

From official sources: the Ukraine Alarm API (behind the “Air Alert” app), alerts.in.ua and, for Kyiv, Kyiv Digital. We never declare or cancel alerts — we only show the official status.

What do the red and yellow levels mean?

The level comes from the official source together with the alert: red means a missile or ballistic threat, yellow a threat from attack drones. We show the reason for the level word for word, as Ukraine Alarm gives it.

Where do target reports come from?

From public messages of the Ukrainian Air Force and other public channels. They are reports, not a confirmed number of objects: identical reports from one source are merged into one.

Does AERIS show where a target is heading and when it will arrive?

No. We do not forecast trajectories, arrival times or impact locations, and we do not show air-defence activity. A heading is shown only as the source reported it.
